0:28.4	did you ever think you'd be a university president?

0:31.7	I joined the Air Force, and I was concerned about making Captain. Absolutely not
0:34.0	a six captain I am a six captain oh three captain for the for the Navy crowd not a six captain I am my goals joining the air force were to become an operations officer, make captain, and travel.
0:46.8	I had not left the country, so I wanted to do an overseas assignment.
0:50.0	I volunteered worldwide. And I thought, okay okay I took the GI Bill so I was young like I
0:57.5	just turned 21 I didn't really have anything on a resume that that someone would
1:01.6	look at and say oh yeah you're ready for the business world.
1:05.3	So I'd have experience and if I wanted to go back to school when I finished I could use my GI Bill and
1:10.4	do that.
1:12.4	And at 25, so it was a four-year commitment at the time that I made it. I thought
1:17.4	I'll be more mature and more able and I could, you know, my resume would help me get a foot in the door for those places that I really
1:26.9	couldn't get a foot in the door with a degree in one hand and not much else in the other.
1:31.3	And how'd you end up in the security forces? My first assignment
1:34.4	was to Patrick Air Force Base in Florida, which is now a space force space. I showed up at a time where
1:40.9	the Air Force was drawing down and this is probably unheard of now but I had
