Let's discuss constipation.

0:27.9

Starting with some quick relief strategies just so we can get things moving.

0:32.5

But then I want to go into a comprehensive list of the underlying causes of constipation, so hopefully you can get to

0:40.3

long-term relief of the constipation. The four main factors that seem to underlie pretty much all

0:50.5

constipation, and we'll go through the details here in a minute, but they are insufficiencies, perhaps of things like bile or certain B vitamins, overgrowth of bacteria or

1:01.8

a slightly more advanced cousin, if you will, or relative to bacteria called methanogens,

1:08.7

different organisms in the gut. Inbalances between the gut and the

1:14.6

brain and the communication therein, and then also some structural impediments that are somewhat

1:23.5

overlooked and will cover data for all of these in a moment, but most namely, I think

1:27.9

the structural are kind of interesting, especially for people who have been suffering, have tried

1:33.2

other therapeutics, and haven't seen full responsiveness. And then I want to briefly touch on

1:39.4

when to think about doing a stool test because that can be important.

1:47.5

So I wanted to make sure to integrate that into our conversation.

1:55.5

There are some negative consequences associated with constipation outside of the obvious, right?

1:57.8

It's dissettling, not moving your bowels.

2:06.2

But when the bowels don't move regularly, this can foster the overgrowth of normal organisms, but literally lead to an excessive amount of them, whether it be fungus,

2:14.6

bacteria, or some of those archaea, we mentioned a moment ago.

2:20.4

The intra-abdominal pressure, the pressure from the straining can weaken the pelvic floor muscles.

2:28.5

This increased pressure can also lead to things like hemorrhoids.
