and I'm here in the office joined by Helen Lewis and Adam McQueen. We're here to tell you about

everything that has happened since the last issue of the magazine came out, starting with you about Dark Starmer.

That's happening since the last issue of the magazine came out.

You wanted to talk about Dark Starmer.

That makes it sound I think possibly more exciting than it's going to be.

But Will Lloyd, a columnist for the New Statesman

about Writing in The Times, was talking about dark labor

last week, which I thought was really interesting

as a question about what Starmer would do

as a kind of governing politician and what he wrote

about was the fact that during the 2011 riots you know as director of public

prosecutions Kirsten was the one who set the precedent that people should be charged

for burglary rather than theft, so much more aggressively prosecuted.

So all those sentences where somebody got six months for nicking a water bottle.

Yeah.

He oversaw all of that, which is a really interesting insight into you know the thing that often makes a very successful Labour leader upsetting as it is to me as a liberal is a certain latent authoritarianism

So Tony Blair was incredibly authoritarian and he

wanted to bring in ID cards and things like that. And someone once said that the

perfect pitch for a labor government is fund the NHS hang the pedos. But just to give you a background I know you're
