And we got KJG in the house today. And real quick, just ask for a little favor. |
| 0:21.0 | If you love this podcast, you know, so many people are saying Monday and Thursdays are the best parts of their week, you know, and that's just so endearing to us. Tell a friend about this podcast. You know, someone who's into fitness, say, hey, have you tried to the fit, healthy, and happy podcast? Because that's how we're going to get this bad boy to grow. We should probably do some collabs on other podcasts, but we've just been so centered in on focusing and creating great content here, that's being our number one focus. So we've also been getting a ton of great questions, and today, instead of including this in Mailbox Monday, wanted to section it out and do a full episode on this, because I've been asked probably about a million times million in one hey I'm not feeling sore for my workout does that mean I'm still |
| 0:58.8 | getting a good workout so to better I guess state it does being sore indicate |
| 1:04.2 | muscle growth and this is something that we're asked way too often I guarantee everyone |
| 1:08.0 | listening this is like hmm does it I don't know and that's a completely fair question. Anything to add? No, yeah, a lot of people, especially the first time lifters or like newer clients are like, oh my gosh, I was able to walk today and, you know, I don't have shooting crazy pain in my legs, man. We got to up the intensity of this workout and, you know, they just like actually, actually just think that progress and growth only |
| 1:29.1 | comes from soreness and it's definitely a myth and we wanted to address that today yeah so many |
| 1:34.0 | people you know oh i killed my workout at everything right at hipr's but i'm not sore so what am i |
| 1:38.2 | doing wrong so first and foremost i'm going to state this i'm going to state this you know |
| 1:42.0 | nice and blatant right out muscle soreness does not equal muscle growth in any way, okay? You can grow a ton without being sore. You can grow a ton with being sore. So I guess to kind of get to the nitty gritty, what is soreness? So first of all, soreness and doms are often kind of what you'll call it. Dom's is delayed onset muscle soreness. |
| 2:02.3 | So if you say someone saying, I have a ton of doms, it means they're feeling really sore. And usually the reason for that delay is right after a workout, we usually don't get too sore. You tend to notice it the next day and especially on that third day. Usually that's when you feel soreness really, really come through. So what this is is when you have little little microscopic tears in the muscle |
| 2:20.8 | And that results in muscular inflammation and the reason the muscles inflame is to kind of notify you that you know they're trying to focus on rebuilding their sore and it's your body basically saying hey idiot don't smash these muscles let me heal up |
| 2:32.9 | You know if you break down |
| 2:34.2 | weight lifting in very simple turns on terms you know you're ripping muscle |
| 2:38.2 | fibers so they can grow back stronger and bigger to train for those stronger |
| 2:41.5 | and bigger weights and circumstances and so you can look ascetic as can be and so |
| 2:46.5 | to add on to everything that Josh was saying when it comes to actual muscle growth |
| 2:49.6 | there's three ways to do so there's mechanical tension metabolic stress muscle |
| 2:54.2 | damage and when it comes to muscle soreness it doesn't it does actually |
| 2:58.4 | indicate muscle damage so that's why people think okay if I'm sore I'm actually |
| 3:02.5 | growing but the correlation between the two are very very poor and one of the |
| 3:06.7 | analogies that I guess I saw online that I thought was very true. And actually, I wanted to share with all of you is that when you're doing long distance running, there is going to be muscle sore and it's present. But it doesn't actually mean that you are growing your muscles. So that's definitely something to think about when anytime you're sore you're like, oh, wow, I'm growing, but then you think of a long-distance runner. They're constantly sore from all the, you know, running that they're doing, but it doesn't mean they're growing muscle because they're definitely not. Absolutely. And one thing, you know, me and Kyle are big on is, you know, even though you can't necessarily use soreness as a gauge to you know |
| 3:40.9 | whether you're working hard or not and once again it doesn't indicate that right it just |
