| 0:00.0 | What's going on guys? Welcome back to the Jeremy Scott Fitness podcast and radio show coming to you on this Saturday here, trying to wrap up my workday. |
| 0:08.5 | I just finished a brutal rowing session as I can prepare for my half marathon row on the 21st here. |
| 0:15.5 | So I've got a couple weeks. Man, my ass is super numb, but I'm getting into it. |
| 0:18.7 | But got me to thinking and just about tips and basically requests that you guys have asked for. |
| 0:24.9 | And this is one from quite a few dudes, a few females as well have asked for this. |
| 0:30.2 | And it is tips for building muscle. |
| 0:34.0 | And really something simple I can speak on just for the fact of you know these are real |
| 0:38.4 | life tips that are applicable you guys can take them with you almost instantly a lot of them you |
| 0:42.2 | know a lot of them you guys might not know or I'll share something and I'll say something a little |
| 0:46.2 | bit differently that maybe you haven't heard in the same way but this is legit tips from a dude |
| 0:51.0 | myself who actually built a little bit of muscle on my frame. If you guys |
| 0:54.6 | ever noticed me, my waist is about, you know, 31 inches. I have the wrists and ankles of a, you know, seventh grade girl. And so I was once a skinny dude, a skinny fat, I guess once I stopped actually playing sports for a brief period in them before I got, you know, legitly into lifting. You know, but I went from 160pound frame to, you know, the 225 pounds of lean tissue that is talking to you today on this podcast. You know, full disclaimer, I was a skinny dude my entire life. I could pretty much, you know, eat anything I wanted to. And because of, you know, playing sports and especially basketball at the higher levels. It is so aerobic in capacity. |
| 2:02.1 | You just can't really keep anything on. You can't really eat fast enough, or at least I couldn't. And it wasn't until I stopped playing and sort of slowing down. Obviously, you know, I've talked about this before another podcast, shitty drinking and eating habits, you know, caught up to me. And not that I was, you know, quote unquote fat per se, but all of a sudden I was, you know, 165 pounds and I had no abs anymore and I had a little bit of a gut hanging out just because I had a nice, you know, three month span of there of just, you know, drinking booze and eating shit and on top of all that stuff. So the biggest I ever got to you guys was 237 pounds in my quote-unquote, you know, early lifting kind of bulking faces. And it was not a, it was not a good looking 237. I can probably share some moon face |
| 2:07.3 | pictures with you guys of, you know, the amount of overeating I was doing to try to put on mass. |
| 2:11.4 | I would not, you know, prescribe that to you guys out there looking to actually build, you know, |
| 2:15.2 | a ton of muscle. But these tips on this, this episode can go to any of you guys, not just dudes who are looking to, you know, gain size. I'm talking about lean quality muscle tissue. And that goes for you ladies out there as well. And I say us all the time and I'll talk about this on a different podcast about bulking. You guys can lift heavy. And as long as you're eating right and you're at a calorie maintenance or deficit and the macros are fitting, you're not going to get quote unquote bigger. You'll just get stronger, more lean, quote unquote toned, if that's the word you guys choose to you. So with that said, we talk a lot to our people about, you know, getting lean, sexy ripped and everything in between. and so I'm going to change gears here and I'm going to talk about what it is to |
| 2:54.9 | actually become stronger and put on like quality lean tissue and the muscle and when you |
| 3:00.5 | guys think of that when I say you know put on muscle don't think get humongous just think |
| 3:04.9 | the type of tissue that makes you strong and look the way that you truly want to um so if i could only give you guys a handful of tips on how to build lean muscle these is probably my top nine um and some of them you know some of them you may not so i'm gonna start off tip number one you guys have to use compound movements uh when you train at least a couple days a week all the fancy you know hit stuff and fancy stuff that's all super cool and it has its place and there is you know a thing like metabolic muscle i'm into that but you have to focus on the big lifts you have to learn how to squat at some point it can be any kind of squat you guys have to do some form of deadlifting variation hip hinging you know even if it's landmine stuff i's perfect. Dumbells are great for you guys who are uncomfortable with Ali lifting in terms of, you know, backload squatting and traditional dead bar deadlifting. Bench pressing, any kind of press, vertical press or horizontal, whether that be bench press or overhead press, pullups, pushups, all those things are great, you guys, pushing sleds, farmers' walks. |
| 3:59.2 | Those are going to give you the most bang for your buck. |
| 4:01.0 | So if you're looking to actually get stronger, the basics work. |
| 4:04.6 | So again, squatting, some form of it, some form of deadlifting, some form of benching or overhead pressing in both, pull-ups, push-ups, and and again pushing a sled with some load and obviously |
