Summary

In today's episode of Overcome Pornography for Good we talk about Situational Joy.

Situational joy is waiting to feel joy until our situations are ideal. Situational joy shows up when we think, "i'll feel good once I lose the weight", "I'll feel good once I get the promotion", "I'll feel good once I get married", and of course, "I'll feel good once I quit pornography".

There are a few problems with this way of thinking.

It's not true. Our situations, our circumstances do not cause joy. We know this is true because many people view porn and feel joy. And feel confident. And feel good.
Waiting to feel good until you quit porn actually keeps you from quitting porn. All of our actions come from our feelings, and so the better we feel, the better we show up. And vice-versa. The worse we feel, the worse we will show up.

The best way to quit porn is to practice feeling what you would allow yourself to feel once you've already quit.

1:05.0	or talks but you know every morning you get together and you spend some time alone studying
1:10.7	and praying and then every night you you get together and you spend some time alone studying and praying. And then

1:17.9	experiences. And it's really, really cool. I've been on one other one before my second baby was born.
1:23.7	I went backpacking with him and a youth group in Zines. And oh my gosh, it was such a cool

1:36.0	trip this year, especially with COVID, you know how COVID's canceled all stuff for this summer
1:40.8	as well. He's still doing backpacking trips and they're so cool. And a lot of them
1:44.4	are in Utah. Some of them are international. If you're a YSA, you can also go and sign up. He has some
1:50.4	YSA trips. So that's the one I'm going on this next week is a YSA trip to Chiappas, Mexico. We're
1:55.8	going to camp underwaterfalls and go see all the ruins and explore the cities and I'm just so, so freaking
2:04.9	excited. So when you hear this podcast, or at least when this podcast is released, you might
2:09.0	hear it later, right? But when this podcast is released, that's where I'm going to be and I can't
