As people head out to celebrate the unofficial start to summer, it's expected to be a record-breaking weekend

for Memorial Day travel.

We ask CNN's Pete Muntein what's been predicted.

Joe, it is a huge weekend for Memorial Day travel.

Triple A anticipates 38 million people will drive 50 miles or more.

That's the biggest number they have seen since 2000. Also a huge weekend for air travel, the TSA anticipates seeing

near record levels of passengers passing through airport checkpoints nationwide.

The bottom line here is he got to get to the airport two hours early and if you're going to drive,

try and leave early in the morning or late at night and try and

try and avoid those normal rush hour times.

Some major metro's could see traffic two or three times the norm.

But the weather could impact some people's plans this weekend.

Severe storms are expected across the central and eastern US, potentially causing

travel delays and power outages. And across the Gulf Coast from southern Texas to Florida the ongoing heat
