Hello from CNN, I'm Joe Beck, with the five things you need to know for Friday, May 24th.

AAA says a record number of Americans are going to be traveling for Memorial Day weekend. It predicts that

nearly 44 million people will be taking a trip at some point between

yesterday and Monday with more than 38 million on the roads. That would be the highest number of people traveling

by car since AAA started keeping track in 2000. But some travelers could face some issues because

there's some seriously bad weather forecast.

We ask CNN's Derek Van Dam what to expect.

Yeah, that's right Joe, with so many people traveling this weekend and a multi-day severe

weather set up beginning today lasting through Sunday. You'll want to pay close

attention to the weather. First today, over 80 million Americans under the risk of

severe storms for Chicago all the way to Austin, Texas. That threat increases in severity

across the Central and Southern Plains tomorrow

and then shifts eastward into the middle Mississippi

and lower Ohio River valleys

for the day on Sunday.

The International Court of Justice is expected to rule today on whether Israel should stop

its offensive in the densely populated city of Rafa in Gaza. In a lawsuit South Africa has accused Israel

of using forced evacuation orders in the southern city to quote,

in danger rather than protect civilian life.

While Israel has accused South Africa of acting as, quote,

the legal arm of the Hamas terrorist organization.

This comes as food and humanitarian aid from the US-built pier is finally being distributed in Gaza.
