Names are starting to be floated for the new House Speaker, after Kevin McCarthy's historic ousting from the chair.

And with McCarthy saying he won't be running for the speakership again,

the race for his successor is underway.

CNN's Brian Todd takes a look at some of the front runners.

Four people do tend to emerge, tend to rise above the others in the consideration of who's going to be the next speaker of the house.

Congressman Patrick McHenry from North Carolina, Steve Scalise from Louisiana,

Tom Emmer from Minnesota, and Tom Cole from Oklahoma.

Those are just four of the top candidates who are emerging as maybe the leaders to become House Speaker

but others could also emerge in the days ahead.

Now all this chaos and infighting on the hill is having real world consequences with fears that there could be a credit downgrade

that would seriously damage the U.S. economy.

Another 125,000 student loan borrowers are getting $9 billion in forgiveness this morning from the

Biden administration.

It comes just days after federal student loan payments restarted after a more than three-year

pause. The cancellations come through three different

existing debt relief programs that have been plagued with problems in the past,

with the White House conducting what it calls fixes to a quote broken student loan system.
