Hello from CNN. I'm Joe Beck, with the five things you need to know for Monday, January 6th.

Tens of millions of Americans are bracing for heavy snowfall, ice, and rain in the biggest

storms so far this winter. The wintry blast is set to impact people from the Ohio Valley

all the way to the Mid-Atlantic. We asked CNN's Derek Van Dam for the details.

Yeah, that's right, Joe.

And speaking of the mid-Atlantic, if DC is to receive 8.5 inches of snow from the storm,

they'll see more snowfall than they did in the past two years combined.

So that's saying something.

This is a big storm.

It spans over a thousand miles from

west to east, dangerous ice, gusty winds, and of course the snowfall component to this, but behind it,

the coldest air of the season will settle in and the winds will pick up helping blow around the

snow and drifted over the roadways. Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is expected to announce that he's resigning.

That's according to reports from multiple media outlets, citing sources who say he'll step down as the leader of the ruling Liberal Party sometime between today and Wednesday,

but who also said he hasn't made his final decision.

Trudeau has led the party for 11 years and has been Prime Minister for 9,

but he's widely expected to lose this year's general election in the country, and he's facing
