After a weekend of escalating tensions in the Middle East,

negotiations for a ceasefire and hostage release deal from Gaza

continue in Cairo today.

A US official tells CNN the process is ongoing and

constructive despite Israel and Hezbollah trading fire yesterday. Israeli forces

launched what they called a preemptive strike against Hezbollah targets in Lebanon,

which Hezbollah responded to, saying it fired more than 300 rockets and deployed several

dozen drones toward Israel. Still, both Hamas and Israel sent negotiators to Cairo for talks.

Nada, what can we expect this week?

Well, fairs, this past weekend ceasefire talks in Cairo

have now concluded without any breakthroughs, but we are expecting working-level

discussions on the proposed deal to continue throughout the week. Hamas officials have said that they have yet to receive guarantees from the Israeli side

of an eventual transition from an initial six-week pause in fighting to a permanent ceasefire in Gaza, and have also rejected Israel's revised proposal to

station a reduced number of Israeli forces along the Philadelphia

corridor the buffer zone separating Egypt and southern Gaza.
