There's some new drama over the rules for the presidential debate on September 10th.

A source tells CNN the Trump campaign wants mics to be muted

unless it's the person's turn to speak, like how it was for the debate between

former President Donald Trump and President Joe Biden. But Vice President Kamala Harris's campaign

believes the mics should stay on.

A senior Harris campaign official said in a statement,

they think, quote, Trump's handlers prefer the muted microphone

because they don't think their candidate can act presidential

for 90 minutes on his own.

Trump weighed in on the matter this morning.

We agreed to the same rules.

I don't know.

Doesn't matter to me.

I'd rather have it probably on but we agree to the same

rules same rules and same specifications and I think that's probably what it should be

so there's some doubt floating around about the debate, but both candidates have been engaged in practice debate sessions in the meantime.

The US is optimistic about negotiations over a ceasefire and hostage release agreement, which took place in Cairo this weekend.
