The FBI says its special agents have joined the investigation into the cause of wildfires that killed at least two people

and destroyed over a thousand structures in New Mexico.

The White House says President Joe Biden is closely monitoring the situation after his administration

approved an expediated major disaster declaration from the state's governor.

And another extreme weather event in the area is making relief efforts incredibly challenging.

Parts of New Mexico are also facing severe flash flooding, as remnants of Tropical Storm

Alberto are bringing tropical moisture into the region, while soils have been

dried by the fires.

This resident of Redoso spoke to see in an affiliate, K-O-A-T.

There was a flash flood warning, and no one really thought much of it because of the fire, you know,

how bad could it be compared to the fire that we're having.

I'd say maybe 30, 40 minutes go by of raining and then all of a sudden we go out and check the river and the only road we have to the mainland is getting blocked off.

Meanwhile, extreme heat continues to be felt across parts of America and much of the rest of the world. In the US, over 100 million people

are under heat alerts across the Ohio Valley, the mid-Atlantic, and the southwest.

Temperatures across the Ohio Valley in the mid-Atlantic should stay 10 to 15 degrees above normal today,

reaching the low to mid-90s.

And DC could hit 100 for the first time since 2016 this weekend, possibly for two days in a row.

Elsewhere, suffocating heat has killed hundreds of people from various countries during the Hodge pilgrimage to Mecca in Saudi Arabia.

Authorities there say 2,700 people have been treated for heat stroke because of the high temperatures.

Ukraine launched a mass drone strike inside Russia and Crimea overnight.
