Hello from CNN, I'm Joe Beck. With the five things you need to know for Monday, October 30th.

It was a deadly Halloween weekend in the US, with shootings in multiple cities killing at least

eight people and injuring dozens more.

Police say parties in Indianapolis and Chicago ended in shootings early yesterday morning.

And in Tampa, Florida, a dispute between two groups erupted in gunfire, as hundreds of people

were filing out of bars and nightclubs, killing two people and injuring 16 others.

The gun violence archive says there have been at least 580 mass shootings in the US this year so far.

The deadliest was an attack on a bowling alley and restaurant in Maine last week when police a 40 year old Army reservist

Robert Card shot and killed 18 people. He was found dead on Friday night after apparently shooting

himself and CNN's

Shimon Prokopez has more on what the police are saying about that attack.

What they tell us is that they're leaning towards mental health issues

as one of the motivation behind this shooting. They say that the shooter was

hearing voices. He believed that people were talking badly about him at these locations that

he targeted. CNN has learned that police were asked to check on card over a month before he carried out the attack,

because a soldier with the main National Guard was concerned that he would, quote,

snap and commits a mass shooting.
