0:08.8	your enmity. You flatter me with this falsehood. You who are the authors of a big lie about
0:14.8	the last election must condemn the truth tellers and I stand proudly before you. Your words
0:21.0	tell me that I have been effective in the defense of our democracy and I am grateful.
0:26.1	And yet this false and defamatory resolution comes at a considerable cost to the country
0:31.4	and to the Congress. At a moment when millions of people in our
0:34.9	home state of California are unable to find a place to live or for to place to live, speaker
0:41.0	McCarthy chooses to occupy the resources of Congress for two straight weeks on this hollow
0:47.0	stop to the MAGA crowd. He offers nothing to those who are homeless or addicted to opioids
0:53.6	or to millions of college students mired in debt, but this poultry distraction. Donald
0:59.8	Trump is under indictment for actions that jeopardize our national security and McCarthy
1:04.6	would spend the nation's time on petty political payback, thinking he can censure or find
1:10.0	Trump's opposition into submission, but I will not yield not one inch. The cost to the
1:18.7	speaker's delinquency is high, but the cost to Congress of this frivolous and the
1:24.6	dangerous resolution may be even higher as it represents another serious abuse of power.
1:32.0	Donald Trump has threatened that any of you that defy him and vote against this partisan
1:37.1	resolution will be met by a primary challenge. And he calls for my imprisonment. If a
1:43.8	transient majority can punish and attempt to silence members who hold a corrupt president
1:49.5	to account, there is no telling what further corruption of office will follow. And I say
1:56.2	this to speaker McCarthy and others who wish to gratify Donald Trump with this act of
2:01.5	subservience or bend to his demands. Try as you might to expel me from Congress or silence
2:08.8	me with a $16 million fine. You will not succeed. You might as well make it $160 million.
