Welcome to my new Series "Can you talk real quick?" This is a short, efficiently produced conversation with someone who knows stuff about things that are happening and who will let me record a quick chat to help us all better understand an issue in the news or our lives as well as connect with each other around something that might be unfolding in real time.
As many as 15 million people nationwide are expected to lose coverage as states check eligibility for the first time since the beginning of the pandemic.
Thousands lose Medicaid in Arkansas: Is this America’s future?
More than 140,000 Arkansans have lost Medicaid in two months, most of them for procedural reasons.
Poltico reporter Megan Messerly who covers health care in the states drove hundreds of miles around Arkansas to find out why so many of them are falling through the cracks.
I gave her a call and pressed record.
Megan is a health care reporter for POLITICO Pro, covering health policy in the states.
Before joining POLITICO, Megan covered politics and health policy for The Nevada Independent. Megan got her start in journalism covering politics as an intern at the San Francisco Chronicle and a reporter at the Las Vegas Sun.
Megan graduated from the University of California, Berkeley with a double major in English and Media Studies and was editor of the school’s independent student newspaper, The Daily Californian.
Like many other journalists, Megan traces her beginnings in journalism back to high school, where she was editor of her high school's magazine and yearbook.
Megan was born and raised in Orange County, Calif. In her spare time, she enjoys painting, yoga and walks with her dog, Moby.
