If we were told to take on the armor of God in our stand against Satan,

it would stand to reason that Jesus Christ himself did that.

When he went against Satan in the wilderness in his 40 days of testing.

And nowhere is this more clear than in the way

that Jesus responds to those three temptations? Did you notice that every time Jesus responds to Satan

with Scripture? We're told that the only offensive weapon we're given in the armor of God is the sword of the spirit,

and we see Jesus wielding that sword of the spirit powerfully.

So take a deep breath and quiet your heart as we become aware of God's loving presence around us and within us.

Today's passage comes from Ephesians chapter 6 verse 17 and Hebrews chapter 4 verse 12.

Take up the sword of the spirit, which is the Word of God.

For the Word of God is alive and powerful.

It is sharper than the sharpest two-edged sword, cutting between soul and spirit, between joint and marrow.

It exposes our innermost thoughts and desires.

Let's begin by reciting God's goodness.

You, Lord Jesus, are the Word of God.

You took on human flesh and walked this earth, experiencing testing and trial, temptation, and hardship,

and responding again and again with the fullness of the Word of God.
