When I was a child, I used to spend so much time looking out a window, daydreaming,

just coming up with these elaborate stories and fantasies.

I mean, my mind would just run away from me.

And it's a childish thing. It's fine.

The problem comes when as adults, we still do not reign in our thoughts.

When our fears or worries, our fantasies, envy, bitterness, it runs away from us and it takes control of our minds.

That is part of the battlefield. That is part of where this spiritual war is fought, it's in our minds.

But we are not left without defense.

God has given us his own armor, and he's given us a special piece of equipment just to protect our minds.

putting on the armor of God. Today, we're taking up the helmet of salvation. So take a deep breath

and quiet your heart as we become aware of God's loving presence around us and within us.

Today's passage comes from Ephesians chapter 6 verse 17 and 1 Thessalonians chapter 5 verses 8 through 9.

Take the helmet of salvation.

But since we belong to the day, let us be sober, putting on faith and love as a breastplate and the hope of salvation as a helmet.

For God did not appoint us to suffer wrath, but to receive salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ.

Let's begin by reciting God's goodness.

Lord Jesus, you are our precious Savior.

There is salvation in no other name but yours.

And when we think back in our helplessness, in our desperation, when we could do nothing

to save ourselves,
