The man killed by a federal agent in Minneapolis was a nurse.

I'm Carmen Roberts. Fox News. Family members say 37-year-old Alex Prettie, shot and killed this morning by a border patrol agent,

was an intensive care nurse at a veterans hospital who cared deeply about people and was upset by President Trump's immigration crackdown.

But Homeland Security Secretary, Christy Knoem, says the man shot showed up with a handgun.

The officers attempted to disarm this individual, but the armed suspect reacted violently.

Fearing for his life and for the lives of his fellow officers around him, an agent-fired defensive shots.

About 1,000 protesters responded with anger to the shooting, despite the bitter cold.

There were major clashes between state police as well as the protesters multiple times today.

Police tried to take control of several blocks around where the shooting took place.

They managed to push the protesters back with multiple uses of tear gas canisters as well as

flashbang grenades. Protesters would retreat and then come back in force, eventually taking back

control of the street, holding their speeches here. So far we have not seen violence from the protesters against businesses,

while they have been aggressive towards ICE agents.

And that winter storm, stretching from the plains,

heading for the northeast, could dump up to a foot of snow on New York City.

Frankly, it will be colder than any sustained period

that New York has experienced in about eight years.

But New York, whatever comes for it, this city is ready.

The storm's already causing more than 12,000 flight cancellations across the country

and tens of thousands of power outages.
