Aloha, welcome back to the Anxiety Coaches Podcast.

1:27.0

In today's episode, I'm talking about some deep wisdom of the heart that will help you to ease your anxiety.

1:36.0

I'm talking today about a book and an author that was profound in my life.

1:46.0

Back when I was very anxious, I was very anxious and when I was trying to find the different practices, I didn't even know they were practices at the time, but I was trying to find anything that would help to settle me down to ease this struggle that I was feeling, this internal buzzing and struggle that was now that I know was definitely anxiety driven.

2:15.0

And so I'm talking about Akneff Eswaran and his book. Well, many books, let me just say he's written so many books, but today I want to concentrate on how I found his particular way of teaching meditation to a lot of people, and that was passage meditation.

2:37.0

I'll have a link to that book in the show notes for you, but I found that whole idea of passage meditation through a book called Words to Live by Inspiration for Every Day, and in the very back of the book, actually on page 375, it's a small book, but it has many pages, and it has an eight point program in the back.

3:05.0

And it's almost as if this was just an afterthought, after giving 365 days of readings for us to follow one day at a time, this eight point program really grabbed me and it made me want to know more and to do more.

3:25.0

I had been introduced, of course, to meditation, but his way of teaching, quote, passage meditation was quite intriguing to me. And so I want to read you some little clips out of the book and talk to you about why you might want to look into this eight point program, and in particular, the first point, which is meditation.

3:47.0

So why don't I just go ahead and read the other points while we're here. So meditation is the first one.

3:54.0

The second of the eight point program is repetition of the mantra. He calls it a mantra, M-A-N-T-R-A-M, but we use the word mantra often here.

4:08.0

The third one is slowing down, and he has a whole book on slowing down. I think it's called Take Your Time. That's a lovely, lovely book also.

4:18.0

And the fourth one is one pointed attention, very important and very interesting shift sapping when you are an anxious person and you start working on one pointed attention can be really, really getting deep into yourself and how you are actually living your life. It's revealing.

4:40.0

And the fifth one is called Training the Senses, the sixth one putting others first and the seventh one reading in world mysticism and the eighth one is spiritual association.

4:57.0

So that's a whole bunch of stuff there that we could get into, but today we're going to talk mainly about the meditation piece and how he teaches the meditation.

5:07.0

But I thought you might be interested in how I stumbled upon Agneth S. Waron and he's such an interesting cat. I have to tell you, back in the 60s at UC Berkeley, he was teaching for credit. This was a full credit course.

5:25.0

He was teaching meditation at UC Berkeley for credit. And I think that he had to be pretty unusual back there in the 60s. So he is dedicated his entire life to teaching, to true, deep-hearted wisdom and sharing that with the world.
