Today we'll be talking to Steve Ely, the creator and

host of the Escape Pod, science fiction short story podcast. It's the most

popular podcast of its kind. And we'll be talking to Steve about how Escape Pod got started and what kind of stories he looks for and where he sees the whole podcasting scene going in the in the years to come. I have a feeling Geek's Guide to the Galaxy is going to be a big part of a big part of that but

definitely but we'll see about that that's assuming we make it to episode 8.

But and then stick around after the interview where John and I will be talking about some of our favorite escape pod episodes and just about audio fiction in general. But so now let's get to our interview. All right let's get Steve on the phone.

Hi, it's Dave and John from Geek's Guide to the Galaxy.

Okay, so first of all, could you just tell us a little bit about how Escape Pod got started?

Like what prompted you to start the podcast and how did the launch come together?

I think I first heard about podcasting somewhere around the end of 2004, maybe the very beginning of 2005.

And I think it's a lot like blogging.

People just hear the term and there's a small percentage of people that something clicks in their heads and they say, man, I've got

to try one of those things. About that time I was listening to Michael and Evo's Dragon Page

podcast and I knew that a couple of those were already starting a podcast novels that they'd written.
