Coming up on today's show. A lot of people don't know what glyphosate it is, and I admit I didn't know what it was either back in 2010, 2011. They panted it to be used to strip metals off of pipes because it's very good at chelating metals. I think it was an accidental discovery that it killed plants. So then they patented as an herbicide. 1974, I think, was when it first was available in the United States. So it is like all over the food supply. And it's not just the GMO. You think, oh, non-GMO, great, I'll buy that. That's not good because some of the highest levels are showing up in non-GMO products. It's basically grains and beans, like legumes, and also sugarcane. So all these crops are sprayed right before harvest. I actually collected some rainwater in Cambridge at my lab at MIT, and I sent it off to Anthony Samsell, and he chested it and found glyphosate in it. So it's in the rain, which is scary. Glyphysate is a disaster for deuterium. I would say now that glyphosate's effects on the deuterium homeostasis is its primary mechanism of toxicity.

And it has to do, of course, in part with disrupting the gut microbiome.

1:00.6

Stephanie, let's start out really general.

1:03.4

What is glyphosate and why is it such a disaster for the human body?

1:08.2

Yeah, great question.

1:09.5

So a lot of people don't know what glyphosate is,

1:11.7

and I admit I didn't know what it was either back in 2010, 2011. It's the active ingredient in the

1:17.9

pervasive herbicide Roundup. Actually, lately, they've actually taken glyphosate out of Roundup that

1:23.4

they sell to the residential market in the United States. So I can't, I can no longer say that

1:28.8

it's the active ingredient in Roundup. I have to be careful about that. But people know Roundup,

1:33.7

you know, it's really popular for killing Dandelions in New Yard. It's also extremely heavily used

1:38.9

in the food supply. It's considered to be a great herbicide because it's quote unquote completely safe for human exposure.

1:47.3

They don't worry about toxicity with it.

1:50.5

The government doesn't measure how much roundup is in the food, how much glyphosate is in the food.

1:55.5

They consider it to be perfectly safe, and that's where the danger lies because it's not safe.

1:59.4

And that's what I show in my book.

2:05.8

I have my book here, Toxic Legacy, how the weed killer glyphosate is destroying our health and the environment. And I took quite a ride starting in 2012 when I was introduced to glyphosate

2:15.0

by a presentation by Professor Don Huber, two-hour presentation on glyphosate,

2:21.3

and I was blown away because I was looking for causal factors in autism.

2:26.0

I had looked for five years and I was coming up short.

2:29.3

And when I watched his two-hour presentation, I became convinced in that moment that I had found my answer, and I have not deviated from that since then.

2:38.4

So it's quite amazing. I did a deep dive into glyposa, I read everything I could about it.
