toe. So many different ways we can relax, right? We can do the body scan, we can do progressive

muscle relaxation. I thought today we would talk about some affirmations that you

can use because affirmations can be a great way of reminding ourselves of what is good for us.

We state these ideas or statements in kind of a gentle and confident manner.

Hearing these statements that we are saying to ourselves can be just what we need to get

back on track or to even set ourselves off in a new direction and very

helpful direction, one that we are being cognizant of that we are aware of. So it's not just positive thinking and

affirmations have been studied and some of the findings are that self affirmation, which is what we're talking about doing,

self affirmation has been demonstrated to lower stress and rumination.

And that's from Cool at L 1999 Wisenfeld in L 2001 and self-affirmations have

been shown to decrease health deteriorating stress.

That's from Sherman-E at L 2009 and Critcher in Dunning 2015.

And as inherently positive statements affirmations are designed to

encourage us to have an optimistic mindset. And optimism in itself is a powerful

thing in terms of reducing negative thoughts affirmations have been shown to help with the

tendency to linger on negative experiences and that's from Wisenfeld at L 2001. Now these are some great studies that have

been done and I think it's important to remember that this isn't willy-nilly that we can really make a difference because we have been saying

if we're anxious or if we have panic if we are depressed we have been

saying negative things to ourselves whether conscious of them or not we have
