Alright welcome to episode 67. I'm excited for this episode because I'm gonna talk about something that I think we have too much of in our life and that's bullshit. And I'm not talking about like

0:59.8

things that annoy us or responsibilities that are aggravating or just like take time and we don't want to do. I'm talking about the bullshit that we create for ourselves, bullshit drama, friends, mindsets, things that frustrate us about ourselves, that kind of bullshit. But I think there's good news here and that I think there's several things we can do just to cut the BS out in our lives because I frankly I don't have time for that. I've got better things to do and I think you do as well. So in this episode I'm gonna talk about a couple of different ways to do this.

1:28.8

I think about a couple of different ways to just move past the BS in your life so you could do more cool things that make you happy and I think that sounds pretty good. So I'm very excited to talk about this. Before I get into it, I got to give a quick shout out to today's sponsor, burrow, you know, that I definitely love burrow. I've talked about them a lot. I love their mission to make clever uncompromising furniture for modern life at home.

1:54.8

Before I do all of my writing from the armchair that they were kind enough to send me, it's in my living room overlooking the river here in Chicago. I do all my best thinking and writing and grahamming there. So I definitely love it. It's where I tend to spill coffee all over myself and kind of just scroll on Instagram.

2:12.8

But burrow is great for that because they're sofas, they're couches, they're scratch resistant, they're stain resistant, that's pretty clutch. They've got a built in a phone charger so you literally never have to get up really just some cool stuff from burrow. And they're also really good people. So I always love to support good people that work for great companies.

2:30.8

So they are hooking up you guys with $75 off a new sofa. You can go to burrow.com slash new mindset gets $75 off. B U R O dot com slash new mindset 75 bucks off. And again, thank you to burrow for sponsoring. And also real quick, just be sure to follow me on Instagram. I've been posting a lot more there lately.

2:51.8

Like every day at this point, I think it's a really cool way to just kind of chat with you all. You guys can get to know me, give you some insight into kind of the things that I do, the weird stuff that I do. So if you're into that kind of thing, give me a file at case.canny shoot me a DM. We can go from there. So let's hop into it. So again, in this episode, I want to talk about bullshit.

3:11.8

You know, namely the fact that, you know, there's bullshit in your life, but I think you could do a lot to kick it to the curb and that you don't have to live with all that bullshit. You could be intentional and kind of say, see you later.

3:24.8

Kind of. And the idea for this episode came to me this past week. I was doing something pretty rare, which is just sitting down and watching Netflix. I don't do that a lot.

3:34.8

But I came across a movie and that ended up watching it. It was called Wakefield came out in like 2016 and it starts Brian Cranston, the guy from Breaking Bad.

3:45.8

It's a pretty weird movie where basically what happens Brian plays a man, I'd say in his late to mid 50s. A family guy who lives in the suburbs with his wife and two daughters somewhere in New York. And every day he does the reverse commute or does the commute downtown.

4:03.8

Tuesday job day in and day out and he's a lawyer, presumably pretty successful one. He's got a nice house, nice car, nice suits, nice watches.

4:12.8

But he's really fed up with the grind. His marriage is boring. He's frustrated. He has no excitement in his life. He's frustrated with his wife and his friends and his colleagues. He's got all this bullshit in his life that really kind of has him down on himself.

4:27.8

So basically the movie is one day he comes home from his usual work day. And this is where the movie gets weird, but he just walks into his attic above his home's garage and he literally just hides there. He doesn't go home. His wife calls the police when he doesn't show up that night. That night he's filed as a missing person and all the wild dude is just chilling in his attic. And that's what the movie is about. He lives in there for over a year, hiding from his family. But he's got like this perfect view of his home.

4:55.8

And you could always see what his wife and kids are up to and you just observes everything there and makes remarks about them and all his frustrations and he leaves that night to go scavenge for food and basically becomes like a homeless person.

5:08.8

And it's a weird movie and I won't spoil it, but it is a little strange. But yeah, now I know obviously I watch this and obviously the takeaway here isn't that you could just up and quit the bullshit in your life or that you could just ignore your problems or your family or responsibilities.

5:23.8

I know that. It's not what I'm saying. I'm not saying that you can go hide anywhere. It's not what I'm suggesting. But I watch this movie and it made me realize some things that made me decide to do this episode.

5:36.8

Namely that we all have bullshit in our lives. You know, things that frustrate us, things that detract from our happiness, things that bother us.

5:44.8

And I think part of living life to its fullest is learning what it takes to minimize that bullshit, learning what it takes to cut it out so that you could be happy and fulfilled.
