Thank you so much for listening. Thank you for supporting me and today I want to talk about the case for being

optimistic my favorite topic, but I know that seems rather simple, right? Like be optimistic. Be optimistic because it feels better than being weighed down by being cynical and negative. Be optimistic because that's how you attract joy and good friends in life.

You know, just be optimistic because no one likes a negative Nancy, right?

And life isn't quite that simple simple though, is it?

So I want to talk about something I read recently

that I think might give you a real reason, a practical reason,

to be more optimistic in life.

That is, to not have a sense of toxic or blind

positivity where everything is just butterflies and rainbows, but rather

frankly optimism as a form of rebellion, optimism as a reset, optimism in reaction to the world's

overwhelming negativity and cynicism, optimism as a reason to believe in possibility. So to start I read this article in

the Atlantic and it's called Chicken Littles are ruining America. Dooms saying can

become a self-filling prophecy. And I'll summarize it here. There's some political

undertones but strip these out because it's really not that important. And I'll include some

direct quotes from it and then we'll go from there but basically the article summarizes that

sometime in the 1970s American culture shifted from people defining

themselves by their roles in society to an obsession with the individual.
