Summary

Be guided in a meditation using a mudra to accept yourself exactly as you are. This meditation is personalized from a reflection in the classic book, Meditations of Marcus Aurelius, who was a Roman emperor who ruled from 161-180 A.D. His reflections are based on Stoic philosophy which emphasizes living a peaceful life by practicing self control to attain inner peace by overcoming adversity, and honoring your true nature -- not forcing yourself to be a particular way. This is so aligned with how I share meditation so I'm excited about this week's series. This is part 3 of a 7-Part Meditations of Marcus Aurelius, Episodes 604-610. As always, you don't have to do the meditation techniques -- they are simply there to help you transition from your busy day to a state of stillness. The techniques also help to calm "monkey mind," when your thoughts continuously interrupt your meditation. Welcome to the Daily Meditation Podcast. I'm Mary Meckley and I'm a meditation teacher who shares a different meditation technique every single day here on this podcast. And every technique is customized around a weekly theme. Well, our theme this week in today's episode 607 is all about meditations by Marcus Aurelius.

0:27.8

Now, if you've been following me this week, you know that I'm customizing meditations around one of the reflections in Marcus Aurelius' meditations. It's a book, not really a book,

0:42.6

it is a book, but he didn't intend it to be a written book that would be dispersed to people.

0:50.0

These were simply his daily reflections. As a man, as a human observing the world around him.

0:56.8

Now he was emperor of Rome and that was way back in AD 120 through 180.

1:08.2

But what I want you to take away is he followed a belief that was very popular during his time and is, I think, enjoying a revival these days. And that is stoicism. And that's the philosophy where you try to be the best you can be and live morally, not to take things so personally.

1:36.3

And this will give you inner peace. So basically it's about releasing the drama in your life and just doing the right thing, whether or not

1:45.8

it's going to have an outcome that personally suits you. And he talks a lot about accepting

1:54.7

what's happening in your life. Because things happen. Things are going to happen to all of us.

2:09.6

And the first meditation I released, which you can go back and listen to, that one was this past Sunday. These are all over at my website at SIP and Ome.com.

2:15.6

And you can also send me a message to join our free private Facebook group that goes

2:21.9

along with the daily podcast episodes that I release. And in order to join that, you can head

2:29.5

over to my private or rather my public Facebook page at Sipanome, just Sipanom Facebook, and send me a

2:37.3

private message to say, hey, please add me to the group. And as I mentioned before, if you go to

2:43.0

my website and you go to the Marcus Aurelius Meditations for this week's series, you will see a way

2:49.6

to join the private Facebook group there.

2:52.6

Well, that being said, what Marcus Aurelius is doing in these reflections is trying to

3:00.6

follow this stoic philosophy and apply it to his own life.

3:04.6

And I really enjoy his book because it's similar to how I like to share

3:11.5

meditation. Many people meditate for, people meditate for all kinds of reasons, but many

3:18.2

people feel like, you know, you need something to be happening when you meditate. You need this big spiritual experience.

3:28.0

The way that I share meditation, you may have a big spiritual experience, but I share meditation
