Summary

Be guided in an affirmation meditation based on the classic book, Meditations of Marcus Aurelius, who was a Roman emperor who ruled from 161-180 A.D. You'll be guided using an affirmation to love your life exactly as it is. His reflections are based on Stoic philosophy which emphasizes living a peaceful life by practicing self control to attain inner peace by overcoming adversity, and honoring your true nature -- not forcing yourself to be a particular way. This is so aligned with how I share meditation so I'm excited about this week's series. This is part 2 of a 7-Part Meditations of Marcus Aurelius, Episodes 604-610. As always, you don't have to do the meditation techniques -- they are simply there to help you transition from your busy day to a state of stillness. The techniques also help to calm "monkey mind," when your thoughts continuously interrupt your meditation. Well, the theme happens to revolve around the book of meditations by Marcus Aurelius, who was a very famous Roman emperor, way back in AD 121 through 180.

0:47.3

And he wrote down his reflections, not as an emperor of Rome at the time, but rather as a common man.

0:58.8

He wrote down his reflections of life, and he never intended these to become public.

1:04.8

They were discovered later after his death and published, and his reflections have become a classic book.

1:13.9

And their insight into the very popular stoicism of the time have been very powerful.

1:23.0

And it's not the kind of book that you can really sit down and read all in one sitting because each

1:30.1

statement is so profound. It's almost as if you need to reflect a little bit on each statement.

1:38.9

So I've gone through his book very slowly and reflectively and that's what made me decide to create a meditation

1:48.6

series for you. And so what I'll be doing this week is I'll be sharing with you a quote

1:56.7

that I thought was interesting and then I'll be customizing a meditation around that quote

2:03.7

and I'll still be going through the different meditation techniques that I always share with you

2:09.6

each day so as today is a Monday as I record this for you we'll do an affirmation.

2:18.3

So let me go ahead and read to you the quote for today.

2:26.3

Now Stoas, if you're not familiar with it, it is actually emerging as quite a popular movement today as well,

2:36.7

especially among entrepreneurs and business people.

2:40.6

And it has to do with becoming your best self, doing what's right,

2:47.9

and finding inner peace, even in an often chaotic world by using your best judgment

2:56.9

and acting morally.

2:59.5

So in a way it's accepting what comes your way and accepting it still with hope, accepting it as it's just part of life, this is what life is about.

3:15.3

People experience these different emotions. We all experience them. There's no need to become so caught up in them. So it's a very interesting perspective,
