Summary

Ben Wikler, Chair of the Democratic Party of Wisconsin, discusses the grassroots organizing efforts that have made Wisconsin a key battleground state. He highlights the importance of neighbor-to-neighbor organizing and building a unified operation. Wikler also emphasizes the significance of issues like reproductive rights and democracy in motivating voters. He praises Vice President Kamala Harris for her ability to connect with voters and make the stakes of the election clear. Wikler believes that Democrats can replicate the success of Wisconsin's organizing efforts in other states by focusing on key fights and giving people a way to be part of something bigger than themselves.

Hi, this is Jen Rubin, and this is Jen Rubin's green room. Wow, it seems like a month has passed since we last got

0:18.7

together, but it's only been a few days. What has happened? Well,

0:23.2

first of all, the Washington and New York pundits have gone crazy. They're convinced that only they

0:31.0

know best, that they can pluck Joe Biden out of the presidential nomination, insert their fill in the blank, some candidate that

0:40.1

you may never have heard of, and do better against Donald Trump. They seem to forget

0:46.0

actual voters selected President Biden, and they have faith and confidence in him. If you look

0:54.1

at the polls, again, or I don't like polls,

0:56.2

but if you do, it's virtually unchanged. And that's because voters know he's old. He is old.

1:05.1

He said he's old. We've seen that he's old. And so this information may have rocked the world of the New York Times

1:12.5

editorial board, but it's kind of baked in to voters' assessment anyway. And what they've decided,

1:19.5

those who are supporting him, is, quite simply, he's a decent, honorable guy with good judgment

1:26.9

who has delivered for the country.

1:29.1

Now, there may be a time where he says, you know, I'm really not up for it.

1:34.9

He has not made that decision yet.

1:36.7

And if he doesn't, he will be the standard bearer.

1:40.3

And people have got to get over looking for this perfect imaginary character that's going to be

1:46.4

great in appealing to everyone and anyone going to have no faults, going to have only assets.

1:54.7

He may at some point decide he doesn't want to tough this out.

1:59.0

He may at some point decide that he really has served his

2:03.4

country well. If he does that, and if he makes the decision, then there is only one solution.

2:10.4

And you can put aside the fantasy baseball about choosing Governor Whitmer or the Governor of California, Governor Newsom, those may all be

2:21.0

fine candidates, and they will probably run for president in 2008.
