Hi from CNN I'm Emily Williams with the five things you need to know for Thursday

June 20th. On top of record setting temperatures large swaths of the Midwest

and Northeast are forecasted to have air quality

that's quote unhealthy for sensitive groups today and into tomorrow.

That's according to data from Air Now.gov.

But it should cool down soon in scorching hot New England,

where heat indexes are topping 100 degrees.

A severe thunderstorm morning has been issued,

and a cold front is expected to cross the region in finally lower temperatures.

As fighting escalates between Israel and Hezbollah, U.S. officials have serious concerns that the

Iran-backed militant group could overwhelm Israel's much-vaunted Iron Dome

air defense system. That's according to three US officials who told

CNN that Israel also has communicated fears that the Iron Dome could be

vulnerable to Hezbollah's vast arsenal of missiles and drones.

Israeli officials have told the US they're planning to shift resources

from southern Gaza to northern Israel

in preparation for a possible offensive into Lebanon against Hezbollah.

A separate U.S. official acknowledged to CNN that in the event of a full-blown war,

the support Israel will need most is additional air defense systems and

iron dome replenishments which the US would provide. The Israeli military

declined to comment.
