Let's start with some of the extreme weather events in the US this week.

Water levels in South Texas are high and expected to get

higher thanks to Alberto, the season's first named storm. Since making landfall

in Central Mexico this morning, Alberto has been downgraded from a tropical

storm to a tropical depression by the National Hurricane Center.

There's a vicious heat wave hitting the Northeast right now,

and the New York State Health Department says heat-related

emergency room visits and

calls are on the rise. Temperatures pushed into the 90s across the state on

Monday and Syracuse set a daily record high of 94 degrees. The governor of New Mexico has requested

federal disaster aid in response to the South Fork and Salt Fires, which are

believed to have destroyed about 500 homes. In Northern California, the site's fire

has grown by nearly 4,000 acres to encompass about 19,000 acres in total. That's

according to the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection.

The Supreme Court handed down four decisions today, but it still has a lot to get through

before its term ends. In a potential win for President Joe

Biden, the court upheld a Trump-era tax on overseas investments by a majority of

7-2. That case, brought by a couple from Washington State,

could have jeopardized existing tax provisions

and torpedo Democratic talk of a wealth tax.
