President Joe Biden has approved a major disaster declaration for California, where four

major wildfires are burning.

Authorities say the Palisades fire has exploded in size, scorching more than 15,000

acres of land in Southern California, destroying at least 1,000 structures, and

prompting massive evacuations between Malibu and Santa Monica.

It's among the most destructive fires in the state's history.

East of the Pacific Palisades, officials say at least five people have been killed in the

Eaton fire, which has affected tens of thousands of homes.

All fire hydrants temporarily went dry in the Pacific Palisades neighborhood overnight,

as crews battled the flames. Officials say high winds are making it impossible to contain the fires,

which temporarily grounded firefighting aircraft. Governor Gavin Newsom has deployed the state's National

Guard to help response efforts. And according to a federal bulletin, the Federal Aviation Administration

is banning flights from near the uncontained fires in Los Angeles. More than 1.5 million

power outages have been reported, with most of them in Southern California, according to power outage.us.

One Pacific Palisades resident spoke to CNN about the moment she and her family evacuated.
