Summary

Liz Syster completed a flip-flop thru-hike of the Appalachian Trail this past summer, and talks all about what it's like to send it up to Maine and hike south, after hiking northbound all the way to the Mason-Dixon line. We also talk about her experience losing weight on the trail and what it did to her body, and she even gives some advice to prospective female thru-hikers (hint: the advice is DO IT). It was great to talk to Liz and shed some light on the fact that a thru-hike does not have to be a traditional northbound, or southbound hike.  Like what you hear? Want to talk some smack? What is going on, everybody? Welcome to episode six of Trail Tales, the podcast where I, an Appalachian Trail Thruhiker, talk with other

0:21.8

through hikers, peak baggers, ultra runners, you name it. I haven't had any peak

0:27.7

baggers or ultra runners on the show yet, but I will shortly, I can promise you that. I've got

0:32.1

a couple really cool guests in mind and we're gonna kind of branch out from just the

0:37.1

AT through hikers in the near

0:38.7

future here. So today I'm super stoked to bring you guys a really cool chat I had with Liz

0:44.0

sister who recently completed a flip-flop through hike of the Appalachian Trail. We talk all

0:50.5

about flipping up to Maine in the middle of a through hike and we also got into

0:54.5

some of the differences between a four and a half month through hike which is

0:58.8

what I did and a six month through hike which is what Liz did I think it was a

1:04.4

great conversation and it was really great to highlight the fact that a

1:08.0

through hike doesn't necessarily have to be a traditional

1:11.4

south to north or north to south hike.

1:14.8

We're going to get into the episode in just a second, but first, those of you that listen to

1:19.5

the show on a regular basis know exactly what I'm about to say.

1:22.9

That's right.

1:23.8

You can probably say it almost line for line in your head right now.

1:27.4

I'm going to tell you how to contact me.

1:30.3

That's right.

1:31.3

Let's say you think I'm doing something cool or maybe you think I'm doing something that's not cool.

1:37.3

Maybe you don't like that I swear so much.

1:39.3

I got a couple comments about that on Facebook.
