Summary

Matthew "Breezy" Park recently completed an under 4 month thru hike of the Appalachian Trail. He certainly set out on a mission right from day one, and we talk all about how he was able to push himself to complete the trail in such a short time. We also cover the differences between the most popular guidebooks that Appalachian Trail thru-hikers carry with them, and the popular navigation app "Guthooks." At the end of the episode, we get into a scary story that should serve as a reminder to all hikers: KEEP YOUR HEAD UP WHEN GOING UPHILL! Hope you enjoy! Like what you hear? Want to talk some smack? Yo, what is going on, everybody. Welcome to Trail Tales, the podcast where I, Kyle O'Grady, an avid

0:19.9

through hiker and peakbagger, chat with other

0:22.7

through hikers, peak baggers, ultra runners, uh yeah, you name it. Today we have a great show

0:28.9

with my good friend Matthew Park, otherwise known as Breezy. Breezy and I hiked together for

0:34.6

around 200 miles on the Appalachian Trail this past summer,

0:38.3

so it was great to kind of go back and reminisce about some of the experiences we had together on the trail.

0:43.3

We also talk about the differences between the guidebooks and, I should say, apps that most people use on the AT, most through hikers use.

0:52.3

We talk about the very fast pace that Breezy set on his

0:57.0

through hike. He did a under four-month through hike of the AT, which is pretty damn crazy.

1:03.0

And at the end, we also get into a story that he tells that should serve as a good reminder

1:08.3

to always keep your head up when you're hiking uphill.

1:12.4

We're going to get into the episode here in just a second, but first, a few episodes back,

1:17.6

I made a promise to read my first five-star review that I get on iTunes out loud at the beginning

1:24.6

of the next episode. And after my last episode, episode 6 with Liz's sister, I finally got some iTunes reviews.

1:33.3

After bugging everybody at the beginning of every episode so far, some people finally listened, and I got some reviews.

1:40.3

Now this is going to be a mouthful to say, but I got five total reviews, four of which were

1:46.0

five stars and one of which was four stars and only the four star review actually had a message

1:52.7

attached to it.

1:54.3

And I did say that it had to be five stars in order for me to read it, but fortunately, I'm the

2:00.2

one that makes the rules and therefore I can bend them when I need to.

2:04.2

So I'm going to make an exception, this one and only time, because it's my first written review, and I'm going to read it right now.

2:12.3

So, Sierra underscore 6 writes, laid back, easy to listen to podcast about various experiences on the AT.
