I first met Danette Owsley in January of 2023 at a survivor's event for victims of all

types of crimes. The event centered around healing and community and will be included in an

impending documentary by Vice about the genre of true crime.

It was an extremely impactful evening, and Dennett's warmth and strength left a permanent impression on me.

I'm a single mother of three grown children.

I have two grandchildren.

And I'm also raising my little cousin that I have kinship care.

I had him since he was going on two months and he is now 14 months.

I've worked from the age of 15 from working with my father with the insurance agency, then being a billing clerk and dispatcher with the railroad

and a big trucking company. I put others before myself always thinking

about the next person, trying to help them. That's just who I am. I make those sacrifices.

And sometimes it's very difficult. Sometimes I'd be a little unsure like, oh, should I have done this?

Because it may be something difficult for me to do.

But if I'm able and can try to do it, I will.
