A bipartisan spending bill was scrapped, just over 24 hours before a deadline to keep the government funded. House Speaker Mike Johnson had negotiated the deal which would have provided funding until mid-March.

But President-elect Donald Trump sharply criticized it yesterday.

Within hours it had been abandoned, significantly upping the chances of a government shutdown

before the holidays.

Elon Musk, Trump and his VP-elect J.D. Vance slammed the bill for including what they see

as democratic priorities, but also injected the politically fraught issue of the US debt limit,

which the country is on track to hit after it has reinstated in the new year.

House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries slammed the GOP for breaking the deal.

House Republicans will now own any harm that is visited upon the American people that results from a government shutdown or worse.

An agreement is an agreement.
