Congress has until late Friday night to keep the government funded and avoid a shutdown,

after President-elect Donald Trump and Elon Musk killed a bipartisan spending bill.

House Speaker Mike Johnson had spent weeks negotiating with Democrats and Republicans behind closed doors

to get a deal. But it was scrapped yesterday with an hours of Trump and Musk saying they don't

support it. They criticized the involvement of Democrats, and Trump also said he wants the bill

to include an agreement to raise the amount of money the U.S. can borrow, a politically

fraught issue. Johnson told Fox News that it had spoken about the bill to Musk and Vivek

Ramoswamy, who were set to lead the new advisory group known as a Department of Government

Efficiency. Remember, guys, we still have just a razor-thin margin of Republicans, so any bill has to have Democrat votes.

They understand the situation. They said, it's not directed to you, Mr. Speaker, but we don't like the spending.
