This week we're talking about the Book of Ruth and the first seven chapters of First Samuel. These are pretty familiar

stories, but we will maybe focus on a couple of things that we can maybe consider as we

read this week's curriculum chapters. But I wanted to start with a correction.

One of you, podcast listeners, corrected a mistake that I made probably two weeks ago,

because I'm just a tiny bit ahead. And I was really great for this because it was basically

a brain-free, slip-of-the-tong combination. I made a big point about the difference between

eternal life and everlasting life, and my language was wrong. The difference I was trying to

distinguish was between eternal life and immortality.

Immortality means we will live forever, and that is a gift of the resurrection that is free.

Everybody will resurrect and live forever.

But I instead spoke the distinction as being between eternal life and everlasting

life. And that is an error. That's a doctrinal error. So I was really grateful for the brother

who brought that to my attention. And let me read. He even quoted McConkey in his comment,

which was great, because that's where we get a very clear definition and distinction.

So, in fact, if you look up everlasting life in McConkey's Mormon doctrine,

it says, see, eternal life.

So the two are equivalent, and that is correct.
