Hi, this is Rilly Anderson, and you're listening to Tews and Glory. Thank you for joining me.

0:09.3

We're talking about various chapters in the book of judges this week. And we see a pattern here

0:15.9

that basically describes the rest of the history of Israel in ancient times before coming of Christ, that

0:26.8

they continually go between the idols and occasionally repent to Jehovah, but mostly when they're

0:32.6

in serious trouble with other nations. So it is tragic, really, this pattern that is established

0:40.6

because of what the Lord calls in Scripture,

0:44.5

their stiff-neckedness and their stubbornness.

0:46.5

So kind of sad times, but the Lord is gracious and generous,

0:50.9

0:56.5

he often raises up someone to deliver them. And in this book, that's what happens. After Joshua,

1:04.0

there is no sort of main prophet that is the steward over Israel, and they have not yet

1:10.4

pled for a king, which they will do, shame on them, because they want

1:15.5

to be like their neighbors, right, when God could have been their king.

1:18.8

But, and this is prior to the administration of Samuel as prophet to Israel, who is the one who

1:26.0

ends up ordaining a king.

1:27.7

Just trying to connect the Ark of History a little bit.

1:31.0

So after Joshua, what happens is that Israel could be a theocracy,

1:38.0

but instead they never finished cleaning out the land of the Canaanites.

1:46.9

So just as they were warned,

1:54.5

they intermarry, some of the children intermarry with Canaanites, and they take on those Canaanites of worship that are completely pagan and extremely offensive.

2:01.6

Remember, and I've referred to this a few times, it's to Abraham.

2:05.6

I keep thinking it's Jacob, but I'm sorry, I checked it.
