Hi, and welcome to the Five Word Prayers Daily, a five-day-a-week daily devotional where we share the

word, prayers, and our heart. I'm Lisa Whittle, and I welcome you to just five minutes with me,

which I trust and pray will be five minutes well spent. How many times have you wanted God to just make

sense? How many times have you wished he would just be on your timetable? Yeah, me too.

Well, today, as we continue our conversation in the I Want God series, we're going to dive into that

and we're going to talk about what it's really about on our end and what we have to get rid of

to want him more than our control.

I think I've told you this before, a saying that my husband has for me.

You can tell me what to do or how to do it, but not both.

Yeah, he really says that.

And here's the thing that's true

about control. All of us have control issues, but none of us like to admit we do, right? Control issues are

for our mother-in-law or our spouse or that neighbor or someone at our church, but the truth is we all

struggle with wanting to control outcomes and situations and yes

even God we want to have things turn out the way we want them to and we want people to do what

we tell them and even laid-back people aren't immune to this however your control issues

manifest rest assured they're in there and I think it's a matter of maturity as to whether we are willing to admit we have them or not.

This topic is really wide open, but I want to talk about one key way I think our control issues manifest when it comes to God,

and really getting in the way of wanting God the most, and that is in our desire for God to make sense.

Logic and reason is what I call it in the book I Want God, but it's basically just wanting

God to lay out the script, show us the exact path or timeline, and most of us aren't fond of

the way he typically works, which is not at all like that.
