I'm Lisa Whittle, and I welcome you to just five minutes with me, which I trust and pray will be five minutes well spent.

Well, we're halfway through our I Want God series, and I hope it's resonating with you.

I know that yesterday's show on comfort was a needed

refresher for me, and today is another one of those as well, because I'm not sure any of us will

ever get to the point that we don't desire to be loved and accepted and, yes, popular. Now, I know what

you're thinking. Lisa, I am grown. I do not struggle with wanting to be popular. Really? Do you have trouble

saying no to people? Do you worry about what other people think? Do you catch yourself trying

to impress others or gauge how you are doing based on how others endorse you? Whatever we want

to call it, our desire for people to want and love us is something that gets in our way of wanting God most.

So I've said this before on social media and so many people responded to it. I know it struck a nerve. I'll probably say it forever because it hits me too. If your goal in life is to be

liked by everyone, welcome to a life of exhaustion. Because no matter how much we try, there will

always be someone who doesn't like us for one reason or another will always be not enough

this or too much that or will remind someone of our husband's ex-girlfriend and we can't do a

single thing about that right oh goodness it's so hard out there sometimes isn't it we are so hard on

each other but truly it is a life of complete exhaustion when we spend our life grasping and wanting

and trying and asking people to love us and to find us the only one who can ever give us the security and trying and asking people to love us and to find us.

The only one who can ever give us the security and rest and satisfaction in our own skin

is Jesus.

No level of popularity will ever do that, I promise you that.

So I took my daughter to a concert some years ago, and I won't tell you the name of the

person in concert, lest you judge me, but the initials were J and B. And honestly, it's one of the coolest
