| 1:56.7 | of the show notes for this and all previous episodes all right here's Derek Coburn. |
| 2:04.1 | All right Derek thanks again for coming back on the show we had you how long ago was our last interview do you remember like may of 2014 around the time my book came out. |
| 2:12.7 | Okay cool so it's been a minute and we talked a lot about networking relationship development something that you're really really good at. |
| 2:19.7 | Running theme here on a OC as well on the art of charm is always developing relationships creating relationships networking in a way that's not shmuzi but very real and you brought up an interesting point pre show which is that one of the largest obstacles in business today is in difference do you want to just dive into that first. |
| 2:36.7 | Sure yeah and first of all thanks for having me back Jordan love your show and it's interesting like when I was on the first time I hadn't listened to it all that much and now it's like as we become friends and you know I've expanded my podcast is definitely one of my go to. |
| 2:49.7 | I like what you're doing I learned from you and your people all the time so awesome i'm glad to hear that yeah happy to be here so yeah what I was mentioning earlier was that I feel like. |
| 2:59.7 | For most businesses that our biggest competitor is in difference or in action meaning that a lot of our ideal clients people if they knew tomorrow we existed and we did things the way we do them they would jump at the opportunity to work with us. |
| 3:17.7 | But we're just not on their radar they currently don't perceive a need for what it is we provide and I think that there's a lot of gold and a lot of potential and finding ways to get in front of these people and disrupt that in difference if you will. |
| 3:33.7 | Yeah it's it's kind of the story of my life right because this has tentacles this idea does that reaches out into branding like maybe they don't think they need it because they don't understand your brand or marketing same thing there the marketing is not effective so they don't. |
| 3:46.7 | Get it they don't see the urgency or the reason to make any kind of switch etc and also because it's easier to not expend energy than it is to expend energy and very few people are constantly researching and looking for something better than they already have. |
| 4:04.7 | It doesn't seem to happen that often and maybe when you're young and when you're dating that's the only counter example I can think of right now but for a lot of us especially in our business we're very very rarely looking for some. |
| 4:15.7 | That can replace a current solution especially if it's not something that excites us right like financial management or tax planning usually it's I got that cover that I don't really want to think about it anymore. |
| 4:26.7 | Exactly I mean that's one type of business you know on the flip side which is not as interesting as sort of the businesses that have evolved where they're almost like a unicorn there's not a lot of direct competition but at the same time there's not a lot of people that are actively seeking them but then they say oh I have a CRN that does not have a lot of money. |
