Summary

When is the right time to quit something, say no, or leave an old habit that's no longer serving you? I've often found this tough as a 'doing' kinda person, and it's common in people with a growth mindset. But it's important to ask ourselves the question "is this serving me right now". I open this podcast feeling overwhelmed, stressed and a little anxious, and explain how I'm working to solve it and help myself, and a good process to use in knowing when to quit things, or say no.

0:56.8

university after university when I was starting a business I was a hugely productive person like from the moment I opened my eyes to the moment I went

1:06.7

to bed I was doing something and I had the energy for it I had the time I had the vision and just the overall desire and I'm not just

1:17.2

talking about work I'm talking about play as well so there was a time at

1:21.8

university where I was doing five different jobs at once on top of my work dissertation on top of

1:30.7

Starting a business and it's because I filled every hour of the day and I was

1:36.6

still going out two or three nights a week yeah some nights I was only getting five

1:41.2

hour sleep but when you're younger you can kind of handle that and you're happy to burn the wick at both ends a bit and I was and I did.

1:48.0

But when you get older, things change and what happens is sometimes we get caught in habit loops we pick up routines

1:57.0

and practices that serve us for a period of time but then don't continue to service at another point in time and

2:06.1

sometimes it's hard to let go sometimes it's hard to let go because you've

2:11.1

formed a habit there you are worried about you know going

2:15.6

backwards you think all well if I stop like all the benefits be lost are the

2:21.0

benefits gonna stick around And then also it can form part of your identity.

2:27.6

You know, if I think about bits of my identity, part of my identity is being a lifelong learner. Like I love absorbing

2:36.6

information growing as a person, understanding myself and the world and people and you know lots of different topics I love it

2:44.8

but there's a point in time where you need to let go and know when it's not
