If you're just joining the podcast, I would encourage you to go back to episode 52, which talks about a general overview of Romans and why I'm in fact calling this series Christianity 101.

Jumping now into Romans 2, which is where we left off, we're going to do Romans 2 verses 17 through 29 today.

Again, the overall context of this chapter is that Paul is making an argument in chapters 1 through 3 about what we are saved from.

And basically he's talking about sin.

First, he addressed those who are coming out of a Greek tradition.

Those who were sort of non-religious would be one way to think about it,

at least from a Jewish-Christian standpoint.

And then he started talking to those who were more religious or to the Jews.

And then he's going on now in this section to talk about Jews and the law.

And the law, again, when we talk about it here, is those written commandments,

which give us an idea of those things that please and don't please God,

especially the Levitical law in the Old Testament.

Now, if you, if you call yourself a Jew,

if you rely on the law and brag about your relationship to God,

if you know his will and approve of what is superior

because you are instructed by the law,

if you are convinced that you are a guide for the blind,

a light for those who are in the dark, an instructor

of the foolish, a teacher of infants, because you have in the law the embodiment of knowledge
