Welcome to the Bible study podcast. I'm your host, Chris Christensen. As we've talked about in the first four episodes, starting in Romans chapter 1, Paul is leading up to Romans chapter 3. He spent some time talking to both the Jews and the Gentiles about where they're coming from, establishing that we are sinners,

establishing that we're in a state of broken relationship with God so he can get to chapter

four where he deals with, and so what? And so what does Jesus have to do about that? But before we

get there, we get this culmination of it here in Romans 3, starting in verse 9.

What shall we conclude, then, are we any better?

Not at all.

We have already made the charge that Jews and Gentiles alike are under sin.

As it is written, there is no one righteous, not even one.

There is no one who understands, no one who seeks God.

All have turned away.

They have together become worthless.

There is no one who does good, not even one.

Their throats are open graves.

There tongues practice deceit.

The poison of vipers is on their lips their mouth are full of cursing and bitterness

their feet are swift to shed blood ruin and misery mark their ways and the way of peace they do not know

there is no fear of god before their eyes i'm tempted at this point to just say, and thanks for coming, good night all, but let's go

into this rather negative series of verses a little more details and figure out where Paul is

coming from.

First of all, Paul is quoting here from the Psalms as he's doing this particular series of verses from a number

of different Psalms, Psalm 14, Ecclesiastes 7 also Psalm 5. So a lot of this is coming from
