Welcome to Game Change Your Life. I'm Dave Anderson in our Agora Hills, California studio.

And the topic I want to share with you today is equip, don't, and able.

Here's what I mean, when you're helping others grow,

whether they're in your family, in the workplace, on a team,

anybody you want to positively impact.

It's just important to understand an aspect of tough love.

And here it is.

What people want and what they need are often very different things.

And they want you to give them what they want, but what they need may be something they don't necessarily want in the moment,

but it's really going to help them in the long run.

Let me give you some examples.

What they want maybe is for you to bail them out if they, you know, got themselves into a tough

situation where if you let them work their way out of it, they grow. The struggle would

actually make them stronger and provide some lessons and probably build confidence and

some mental toughness. What they want maybe is for you to and accept their excuse, okay,

accept their excuse when what they really need is to learn how

to take personal responsibility and to spend some time looking in the mirror, instead of looking

out the window, blaming stuff out there when the answer is in the mirror.

And if they don't get that personal responsibility going in their life,

pretty soon they're always going to go through life as a victim. That becomes habitual for them.
