And I'm Tracy. Hello, y'all. Welcome to the podcast. As y'all will recall, with the last episode,

we did something of a reset and backtracked a bit so that by the end of the show,

we'd set the stage for the fight at Colp's Farm on June 22, 1864.

On the federal side, Sherman was shifting troops farther south beyond the Confederate left flank, and so Joe Johnston,

who had already decided to strengthen the rebel left by weakening his right, ordered John B. Hood to shift his position, moving his core from the Confederate right to the far left of the Kennesaw line.

Hood began to move on the night of June 21st and was

in position on the following afternoon. Thirty-three-year-old John Bell Hood was a veteran of some of the

Civil War's most ferocious battles. He led a brigade in the Peninsula campaign, gaining a

reputation as a fearsome fighter.

At Antietam, he led a division into the Bloody Cornfield, tearing apart federal units while suffering devastating losses.

At Gettysburg, Hood's division began Longstreet's assault on the Union left flank on the afternoon of July 2nd,

kicking off what Old Pete referred to as, quote,

three hours of the best fighting done by any soldiers on any battlefield, end quote.

It was on that fateful day at Gettysburg that Hood suffered the first of two serious wounds,
