with the truth of God. Let's dive right in this morning. We've been talking about

the subject of humility and how essential it is in our lives

if we are to live lives that are going to bring honor and glory to God and point others to him.

And the chapter we've been looking at in the book humility penned by Andrew

Murray is a chapter about dying to self. And here's what Andrew Murray says about the prospect of dying. what a hopeless task if we have to do this work?

What a hopeless task if we have to do this work.

Nature never can overcome nature, not even with the help of grace.

Self can never cast out self, even in a regenerate man or woman.

Regenerate, he means believer in Jesus Christ, someone who is saved.

Praise God, the work has been done and finished and perfected forever.

The death of Jesus, once and forever forever is our death to self. And the ascension of Jesus, his

entering once and forever into the holy place has given us the Holy Spirit to give us in power a way to make our very own the power of this death life.

As the soul in the pursuit and practice of humility follows in the steps of Jesus.

Its consciousness of the need of something more is awakened.

Its desire and hope is quickened.

Its faith is strengthened and it learns to look up and claim and receive the true

fullness of the spirit of Jesus which can daily maintain his death to self

and sin in its full power and make humility the all-pervading

spirit of our lives. That's a long paragraph with a lot of deep theology in it, but his point is very simple.

When Jesus died on the cross over 2,000 years ago, you and I were there with him. We participated with him in that death because our

sin, our very being in the form of our old self hung on that cross with him. And when he died, we died. His death to self in
