When I look back at that, like, I reacted really negatively to that because I was like,

0:05.3

you could have just told me this as opposed to making me feel like I'm a complete idiot and

0:12.2

no one ever does this, right?

0:14.4

Like, sorry, actually, lots of people do this.

0:16.9

Like, lots of people make this mistake.

0:18.4

And I think it's when we add in this sort of,

0:21.4

how does this reflect on your reputation and who you are, as opposed to what's, like, if we just

0:27.6

describe what happened like you did with Kai, right, and say, you know, that's probably not the

0:33.4

best way to handle it. Okay, dad, that makes sense. That's a lot different than Kai. You're a bad

0:38.1

boy. Like, you did this badly. You should be ashamed of yourself. Whatever, right? But I think that

1:06.3

a bad human being. It means you made a mistake and you got to cope with it. Had their struggles. And

1:12.2

when failure happens, you say, okay, like I've been to this movie before. It's not that bad.

1:17.9

I always say to my kids, which they hate, but they're coming around to now, keep it in perspective.

1:22.6

Because as you said, if we're not dead, if we're not whatever, right? Then we're still here

1:27.3

and we can do something else, something better, and we learn from it. And I think they're getting the point, right, slowly but surely, that life throws you difficult things. And when you're 15 and you have a bad day at school, you think it's the worst day ever. And then you hear about somebody getting cancer or somebody dying in an accident. And then you realize it's not.

1:45.5

And I want people to realize failure is not going to crush you. It's going to help you if you can

1:50.8

get your head around it and say, what the hell just happened here? And how do I figure that out?

1:56.6

Right. And so it's just, it's like, let's just, I love that quote by Jim Collins of Face the Cold Hard Facts.
