Summary
I found myself in an odd situation earlier this week, and it made me realize that I haven't been super present in my day-to-day. Sharing that story for 5-minute Friday and an important lesson I took from it about how to learn from both the good and bad in life. | 0:00.0 | Hey, everybody. Emily, here. You're listening to Five Minute Friday from Hurtle. I had a moment this week that I knew as soon as it happened. |
| 0:29.6 | It was exactly what I was going to talk about here today. That moment happened when I was in yoga at Mindstown to studio over in Chelsea. |
| 0:40.2 | I was there on Wednesday morning ticking class. I found myself, it was like, as though I had completely lost myself in the middle of the practice. |
| 0:50.5 | We were about halfway through. I was in my favorite pose. I don't know how it sounds. |
| 0:58.4 | I feel a little lame saying this, but my favorite yoga pose is tree pose. I don't really have a rhyme or a reason. |
| 1:04.8 | I know that it works ankle stability, which as someone who is navigating plantar fasciitis, this is something that I am sensitive to. |
| 1:13.2 | But regardless of that, I just always love how grounded and solid I feel in that specific pose. |
| 1:20.4 | Now, for those of you not familiar with tree pose, generally speaking, you stand on one foot. |
| 1:26.4 | You put your other foot, the sole of your foot on the inside of your inner thigh, and you raise your arms up into the air. |
| 1:35.6 | I was standing there in tree pose. My right foot was on my left thigh. I had a moment when I didn't remember or realize how I got there. |
| 1:45.6 | I was so in my own head thinking about other things that I had obviously been listening to the queuing of the instructor, |
| 1:53.2 | but did not remember getting into this place where I was in my favorite pose. |
| 1:58.4 | It was so surreal for me. The things that had been going on throughout the week kind of really just hit me head on. |
| 2:10.4 | I feel as though a lot of the things that I've been doing this week, I have just been on autopilot. |
| 2:16.8 | I haven't been present. I've been taking meetings and answering emails and working on who knows what. |
| 2:24.0 | And I look up and all of a sudden an entire day has gone by and I'm realizing that I keep just ending up in tree pose. |
| 2:32.8 | Now, luckily, in this instance, I'm miraculously in my favorite pose. |
| 2:37.8 | But hi, I want to feel that just like I want to feel everything, you know, the good and the bad. |
| 2:45.0 | There is this principle in the IPEC, the certified professional coach course that I'm finishing up now, |
| 2:53.8 | put on by the Institute of Professional Excellence in Coaching. A lot of big words there. |
| 2:59.8 | And the principle is there are no mistakes. There are only lessons. |
| 3:04.6 | And so I'm not angry at all about the fact that I feel as though I have been just going on autopilot. |
