It was a notable death last week. Carl Andre passed away. If anybody knows who Carl Andre is,

it's because he killed his wife and got away with it.

Acquitted, I believe, of the murder of his wife. He was considered sort of the OJ of the art world.

But he was also the pioneer, really, probably the most famous figure associated with minimalist

sculpture. And if you've ever been in like a museum, a modern art

gallery, you'll know a certain kind of carolandre piece. You go into a room and it's 24 bricks on the

ground. Or you'll find a bunch of lead squares on the ground or some bales of hay sort of arranged.

Like the sculpture work was purposely not pretty, but it was all

about the way it was laid out and its interaction with the environment and turning the space

itself into sculpture. Anyway, yeah, I mentioned that he killed his wife and got away with it.

His wife, another artist named Anna Mandietta, mysteriously fell from their, you know, 24th floor apartment

window and, you know, the neighbors said they heard her scream and yelled, no, don't do it or

something like that before. And then the cops... And his defense in court was like, oh, yeah,

she was telling me not to make another piece of art that's just like a sphere on a stand or something shows how little

you know he was more about like blocks in a room so even more boring like brick and you know just

just the purity of it you know and yeah they the cops got there and he had scratches over his face

and uh how the hell did he get off you know there's a whole book whole book called Naked at the Window, and in fact, there was a podcast

series, the title of which escapes me, but if you search Carl Andre podcast, you can listen to

it and it sort of lays it out. I mean, his lawyers were able to finagle it such that he didn't

have to have a jury trial. It was just a judge trial, and the judge determined

that there was reasonable doubt. But nevertheless, he never quite shook the obvious fact that
